Welcome to my first Blog. As you know, we’ve been working hard to get the Club in a position where it can thrive in the future and welcome new members, from other sporting disciplines as well as Rugby, through the doors.

The vision for Boroughmuir Rugby & Community Sports Club (BR & CSC) is that:

"Boroughmuir Rugby & Community Sports Club will be a sustainable community sports club, driving rugby success, sporting participation and performance across all ages and genders within our community."

Over the past couple of months, the Clubs’ Working Groups have been pushing forward with the development of BR & CSC, and we’re waiting on the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator’s decision regarding our charitable status. Assuming we get this, we’ll quickly work to get more teams using BR & CSC, work closely with the local community and focus on youth rugby.

As well as looking at the future of BR & CSC, we’ve been planning a fund raising dinner with The Bill McLaren Foundation to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of our triumph at Melrose Sevens in 2002, and Bill’s last ever rugby commentary.

The event, which boasts Sir Ian McGeechan as the main speaker, will be held at the Corn Exchange on Friday 9th November (which is also the weekend of Scotland vs the All Blacks at Murrayfield). We’ll give you more details about this in due course.

Business aside – on to Rugby. On Saturday 4th August we took a squad to Netherdale for a friendly against Gala RFC – scoring five tries to their four, and on Saturday, the 1st XV travelled to Tynedale winning / losing

Next week (Saturday 18th), Meggetland will be hosting a small fifteen-a-side tournament, before we kick-off our league campaign against Ayr on the 25th.

And in the spirit of the Olympics and inspiring a generation, the Youth section registration day will be on Sunday 19th August.
