Magic 2's v Hamilton 2's - September 30th

A busy day at Meggetland with the bouncy castle proving popular with kids and adult. The 2s were kept away to avoid injury pre-match...but the coaches had to test it out!!

A good call to keep the lads off the inflatable as with only 1 minute on the board we were 3-0 up courtesy for a Rory Scott Penalty. Then with 3 mins gone the lively looking Jack Hamilton chased a kick through from Scott and a lucky bounce left the full back in all sorts of bother and Jack touched down. Conversion by Scott made it 10 -0.

Rafe Morrison was next on the score sheet after some great defensive work on the outfield by the whole line. Pressure told and Morrison, now without an injury for a whole three weeks, dotted down with a Scott conversion taking it to 17-0 and only 9 mins gone. Complacency had not set in to the B'muir men like it did last weekend but Hamilton were getting into their stride now.

They pressurised our line and it eventually paid off after Callum McDevitt got yellow carded whilst he was lying down injured in the in-goal area.... a decision the player and coaches perplexed.   The scrum half tapped and went and they drove over from 5 metres out. The conversion took it to 17-7

B'Muir had the ascendancy most of the first half and defended with power and vigour not allowing Hamilton many options. Turnovers from Arran Wilson, McDevitt and Morrison were abundant bit we could not quite break the Hamilton line.

Confidence was high and prop Tam Gracie even threw an outrageous one handed overhead dummy which was bought by 2 Hamilton defenders. From that momentum was gathered and six phases later a penalty for Scott to convert. 20-7 at half time and the coaches were pleased but wanted more in attack.

The 2nd half started well with the attack down the right and then swept back to the middle with Scott making and excellent break off the left of the ruck, skipped last 2 defenders then out-paced two more for a 27-7 lead after converting his touch down.

We showed some good attacks after that but some silly errors were creeping in and Hamilton would not lie down. with 12 mins to ago a nasty neck injury to a Hamilton player meant we stopped for 15mins and moved the game to the U18s pitch whilst an Ambulance came (player was found to be ok on Sunday).

This break brought Hamilton to life and they scored after 7 mins and then pressured our line on numerous occasions. Gracie was yellowed with 2 mins to go and I am sure he will see why on the video but this was probably his best game of the season so far that aside.

The game ended 27-14 and although no 4 try bonus, a great win for us.

Stand outs were Rory Scott at 10 and Raef Morrison at 6. Arran Wilson and McDevitt worked hard as did Grace and all deserve praise. This week though I will give the MOM to jack Hamilton. Some great 'bossing'. lovely snipes and almost all passes went to hand. His dad was watching and did note that he should stay away from kicking penalties to touch, or not as the case was. I am sure our video session will no doubt mention this!

Heriots next week for the 1s and 2s, and the boys looking forward to playing a team we have beaten at Goldenacre the last two season!
