March 2019

In recent years, at Boroughmuir Rugby and Community Sports Club (BRCSC), we have made significant strides in changing into a Community Sports Club structured in order to make us a more sustainable club.

The next few years look to be equally as challenging in the Rugby section, both as a part-time professional team in the ‘Super 6’ competition which is scheduled to kick off in November this year, just after the World Cup and in making our way in the re-vamped amateur competition, initially in National 1.

This has been, and will be, led by a number of dedicated volunteer professionals, entrusted by the members to take these changes forward, instil good business practices and to continue the club’s modernisation.

Whilst some natural and planned change has ensured that we do not become complacent in our desire to achieve greater goals, we have a number Director’s roles continuing to be vacant and some directors retiring by rotation.

BRCSC would like to now open applications for these roles to the wider community. We are looking to appoint 3-4 new directors to help continue the club’s progress.

It is imperative that we align a suitable candidate to a role based on their experience and/or qualities they can bring in. Some roles may lend themselves to individuals who have the necessary qualifications but would benefit from the mentoring that our group of experienced business professionals can provide. Therefore, interested parties are asked to submit a written statement, setting out their expertise, and what he or she feels they would bring to the role of Director.

A nominations panel will be appointed to review directorial nominations.

If you feel you have the right experience/ qualifications and are looking to transform good ideas into great actions, then these roles are for you.

This is a great opportunity for those considering coming in, to join a successful club and make it better. If you have ever had a thought on how to make a Premiership Club run to its full potential, then we want to hear from you.

We would like to receive applications by Friday 19 April 2019.

If you think you would like to be a part of not only a successful team but continue that success into the future, please consider getting in contact with us.

For further information, to lodge a nomination, or just a chat about the roles, please contact Ally Hay, Chairperson of BRCSC e-mail him on chairperson@boroughmuirsports.co.uk

The roles are as follows:

Director of Rugby Development

This is a tremendous opportunity to lead and shape the rugby performance of one of Scotland’s premier rugby clubs as we enter the SUPER 6 era.

The position will oversee Boroughmuir’s coaching and team management structure in line with the club’s Rugby Strategy. The Director will lead a support team to provide experience and expertise to SUPER 6 and Club team structures. The Director will work closely with the Director of Youth Rugby to deliver transition from youth to senior rugby.

To be considered for appointment you are likely to be an ex-player or coach, with experience of the modern game. The Board will consider a “shared director” approach in order to share spread the load.

Vice Chair

The current Vice Chair, Bill Watson, will be stepping down after 8 years as a Board Member. Bill will remain an active participant for the Club. At last year’s AGM, Bill was awarded the position of Honorary Member in recognition of his contribution to the club. The Board, therefore seeks a new Vice Chair to replace Bill, working closely with Chairperson, Ally Hay, to ensure correct governance and identify the club’s priorities as we drive forward. The position provides an excellent overview of the club, and requires interactions with the club’s external stakeholders, such as Social Investment Scotland, City of Edinburgh Council, SRU.

Community Director

Our constitution provides for the appointment of two further Directors, one to represent sporting partners and organisations (other than rugby football) involved in the Club and the other as a Community Director. The aim of this role is to bring external perspective to the Club ensuring that we maximise our community involvement.

In addition, the following appointment requires to be made as one of the current Directors retires. The existing postholder’s position in relation to re-appointment is indicated.  However it is open to members to nominate other individuals to be considered.  Further information on these roles can be obtained from Ally Hay or Club Secretary Alex Thomson – club.secretary@boroughmuirsports.co.uk:
