Stirling County2nd XV 35, Boroughmuir 2nd XV 19,
Boroughmuir 2nd XV faced Stirling County 2nd XV at Bridgehaugh Park on Thursday evening, looking to continue their recent run of victories. The game started perfectly for the 2nds, with an early try from stalwart prop Ross Young, who bull-dozed over from a text-book driven lineout.
However, this was the highlight of the first half for the 2nds, as Stirling County racked up three converted tries. The home side were marshalled well by an experienced stand-off, however, the 'Muir defence was not up to scratch at times.
The 2nd half was much improved for the magic 2's, with the forwards making good ground with ball in hand, from the likes of Lynton Brinck and the backs causing problems, mainly through the centres Richie Sievwright and Redha Guedroudj.
Although it was disappointing to see the 2nds concede two tries to Stirling from turnover ball in their own twenty-two, 'Muir showed plenty of grit and determintation. They were rewarded with two tries through Brinck and Richie "Ice-pack" Battson, both which were converted by Chris Evans who had packed his kicking boots for this game.
The final score was Stirling 35, 'Muir 19.
Man of the Match for the 2nds was scrum-half Harry Fenton, who's incredible footwork would not look out of place on Strictly Come Dancing! He battled hard all day, under immense pressure from the home sides pack and more often than not made good ground with his sniping runs.
This Saturday see's the 2nds finish the season away to Selkirk. Hopefully a victory will registered, which would be a just reward for all the hard efforts this season from coaches Neil McCallum and Andy Knight, as well as manager Campbell Marr and physio's Fi Sutherland and Neil Elbourne.
