The match kicked off for the Shield & Plate final on a blustery day at Biggars’ ground In Lanarkshire.
Boroughmuir didn’t have their full squad with them due to some injuries and some players on holiday, even though they opened the scoring with penalties. Boroughmuir were under pressure for quite a while from a forceful, hard-hitting Biggar team.
Towards the end of the first half, Boroughmuir were beginning to look like they were picking things up, getting in to playing their fast passing rugby.
The second half began with Muir being camped in their own 22, but suddenly broke out with some great running and passing. This began the return to their way of playing. The pocket battleship, Connor McCormack took a pass, crashing through the opposition to score a great try.
Backs and forwards were working together now as they normally do, forwards pulling in the opposition, then letting loose the backs. Some great running took place. Chris Ward, No 8, had some great crashing runs that upset the opposition.
Again, backs and forwards were running loose. Ian May ran in 2 tries, bringing a great smile to his face.
Then Ewan (jinky) Smith ran in another super try. Ian Martin had some great kicking on field, also scoring 3 conversions and a penalty.
Biggar though, kept the match going by scoring some well-deserved tries themselves.
All in all, it was a good day for the Boroughmuir Colts, having already won the league 3 times, but winning the Shield and Plate final for the third time as well, consecutively.
Congratulations to the Coaches and Family support who helped the team achieve their goals this season
