With the start of the new season underway, the sole aim for this team this year will be to gain their place back in the Premiership next season. Some notable new faces in the squad keen to make their mark.

Today also sees the call up of Liam ‘Raging Bull’ Black, working up through the Boroughmuir Youth Development programme to earn his place on the bench. With the return of Captain Andy Rose from international duty, he will be keen to adjust back into his leadership role.

The game hardly gets underway before Alex Cox dots in for his first try for the club, resulting from a break on his 22. With the option of Full Back Ed Farquharson on his right, Cox threw the dummy to run it in under the post. Converted by Stand off David Reekie.

After prolonged periods on defence, Muir were able to break out and after a loose play from the ruck, Cox on the end of a good pass to run it in again for his 2nd. Reekie converted.

Rob Cairns got into the mix with a darting run to fight his way over the line. Cairns who was a stand out player last season is keen to deliver more of the same this season. Converted by Reekie.

Andy Rose’s influence is evident on the field hearing his instructions from the sideline and leading the defence with hard effective tackling.

Full Back, Farquharson picking up a try after a strong break by Redha Guedrudj. Guedrudi mixing his side steps with the steam rolling technique in the 1st half. Converted Reekie.

Liam Black having a good 1st half impression, making his debut replacing the injured Joni Hare.

Try by Greig Scott, who had to wait as the ref and touch ref discussed the recent play. Good reward for the hard working 2nd row. Converted Reekie, on target with his kicking from both sides of the field.

Half time sees Muir lead 35-0.

Hillhead were unable to match the pace of Muir, coming from all directions. Both teams feeling the pace in the 2nd half with a few early mistakes setting in.

Malcolm Clapperton takes a lite pass from Reekie to find a gap to the line for his 1st try of the new season.

Hillhead-Jordanhill’s Number 7 Stuart Ross drives over to show their forward pack still has the power and pace to score.

This was shortly followed up by Number 10 for Hillhead, AJ Macfarlane, pinching an intercept, sprinting towards the line. So worried was Macfarlane that no one had spotted his intercept, he started to run backwards to see who was watching him. Converted by Andy Leslie.

Another push over try for Hillhead, starting to get back in the game again. Muir, dropping off the pace in the later stages of the game. Try converted by Leslie.

Solid performances by Cal Davies, Will Kay and Greig Scott provide the foundation of the forward play for Muir. David Reekie having a good day with the boot.

Number 8 Blair Macpherson for Hillhead and 10 Macfarlane also had good games.

A few gaps in the backline allowing Hillhead to penetrate, but over all, a stand out performance by Alex Cox who was allowed to run, close to unopposed all day.
