Match Report by Ron Carr
Like any new team coming together in a new season, new players and new high intensity training regimen , the Boroughmuir Colts seem to be making great progress.
Coaches and players alike have done very well in achieving what needed to be achieved. Chris Pacy, Boroughmuir Rugby’s Development Officer, also helped in this, and all of this effort was plain to see in Saturdays match against Dunfermline Colts.
The conditions for the match were an unusual – it was sunny and mild. For the first 20 minutes Muir’s efforts kept being thwarted by some great defensive work, and tackling by Dunfermline, and they were keeping Muir in their own twenty two, too often.
However, it soon became apparent that Muir had turned the tide. The forwards began a run of good rugby, now taking the ball on for a number of phases, linking with the backs, which allowed the first try by Muir’s No 13, Dom C.
Buoyed on by this Muir began putting more pressure on Dunfermline, the forwards getting it together at scrum and lineout, creating good platform’s for the backs whereby Michael Sinclair and Keir Henderson ran in another two tries.
The two centres, Craig H and Dom C worked well together generating great runs, and from this, passing to a team who now had the bit between their teeth, continuity and support play was looking really good, every position was functioning well.
Dunfermline’s defence though was pretty good, running hard and tackling as they went. But Muir’s forwards were on a roll, providing great ball for the backs with Scrummy, Jack Hamilton going over the line for the fourth try. The forwards were winning good ball but Dunfermline was up quick, attempting to stop Muir’s backs from getting the ball and succeeded, scoring their first try.
With the team playing well, a great tackle from Hooker, Nathan Watson, retrieved the ball from Dunfermline who were on their way downfield, Nathan swung the ball to the backs and Craig Hunter ran in for his second try.
Some loose play by the opposition saw the ball going to ground and Muir’s forwards pounced on it, galloping up field with not too much trouble, passing as the backs might, with Jonathan Goldring, No 8, going over for a sixth try.
All in all, a mighty performance by the Colts.
The Colts now have a couple of weeks break from National League play, but will most likely look around for a friendly somewhere
