Boroughmuir S1/S2 - 34 : 4 - Portobello S1/S2

Portobello brought up an S1/S2 combined team to Meggetland so we merged some of our S2's to our S1 squad.

Boroughmuir took a bit of time in the first half for the S1 & S2's to gel together and had to dig in deep to eventually break the deadlock with the first try of the game. Strong defence and rucking meant Boroughmuir had to work very hard all afternoon for their tries and in the end ran out winners by 9 tries to1

There were also debuts for two S1 players, Beck Davis & Matthew Dalyell, who did really well for their first games in a Boroughmuir shirt.

Considering some the boys had not played together before the performance was very good with some good strong attacking, tackling and running.

Next week we welcome both S1 & S2 teams from Heriots to Meggetland

BOROUGHMUIR P6 v Watsons & Portobello

At Friday training P6 were treated to a Master Class on ball retention by Chris Pacey (Boroughmuir Rugby Development Officer) and Scott Anderson (S1 Head Coach). This was eagerly received and the benefits were immediately apparent in Sunday’s matches.

In a round-robin of lunchtime games at Meggetland on Sunday, Boroughmuir first played Watsonians Warriors. It was an expansive game, with the quality of the handling by both sides attested by the fact that there was not a single scrum. Contrast this with the number of handling errors by Scotland against South Africa later in the day! Boroughmuir kept their concentration in attack and defence to win the game, scoring some well worked tries.

The second match was against Portobello. This game was hard fought at the breakdown with the rucks keenly contested. The result was a narrow victory for the visitors. The encouragement from the touchline was enthusiastic with supporters of all teams enjoying the entertainment on display. The players certainly enjoyed it and are now looking forward excitedly to meeting some the Australian Rugby team on Wednesday.
