Boroughmuir U16 take the Merchiston 7s Plate Completion

Report by Peter Wood

It was a bit damp and the Boroughmuir U16 squad were there early to remind themselves what 7s is all about. The first game against Robert Gordon was a tough close game. More like 15s than 7s. However there was enough passing and running into space to take Muir to 12 - 0 at half time. Robert Gordon scored in the second to bring the score to 12-5 however Muir kept their cool, a few fresh subs and the game was Muirs at 22-5.

Dollar was up next in the pool stages. They were a tougher team and it was even all through the first half with no score. Early in the 2nd half, Dollar scored from a 2 man overlap 0-5.

Muir took on a strong Edinburgh Accies team in the semi-final. Muir started strongly and were getting the hang of the game - passing, running, supporting and scoring. At half time Muir were up 12-0. Accies had no answer and Muir put another superb try on the board with a superb break, support from the forwards and a great score under the posts to put out Accies with Muir into the plate final with Stew Mel.

A pitch change and a bigger crowd and the final was off. Stew Mel were aggressive and held the ball well for 2 mins putting a score into the corner with no conversion. Muir got the ball from the kick off and some strong running from Keanne, White, Yawayawa, Orr, Luff, Beckman, Muir, Terry, Robertson, Costello, Finlayson, Gilfillan put a try and conversion on the board.

21-5 to Muir at half time.

Uphill and into the wind in the 2nd half was a little tougher but that didn't really matter, Stew Mel were not able to keep up the pace. Muir put 2 more in with some great lines and ball skills.

33-5 final score, the plate, a good meal, a medal for all and big smiles all round

Well done Boroughmuir U16 - the cabinet looks better this year.

Thanks to Merchiston Castle School for the organisation of the day.
