Boroughmuir P7 Report - East Kilbride Tournament

What a difference a week makes! Sunday saw the Boroughmuir Minis over at a very sunny Glasgow for the East Kilbride tournament. In the P7 round robin we were drawn against teams from Ayr, East Kilbride, Strathaven, GHK and Paisley. This week we all wanted to be on the park, we passed better, supported better, ran faster, tackled harder and everyone came of the pitch with a smile on their face!
Our first game was against Ayr - Ayr came out the block well and were strong through the forwards, however, Muir got wise to this and kept moving the ball wide to one of our fastest back lines we've had this season, who were making light work of hitting the wings with pace. Once our forwards matched the pace on the Ayr players, we were able to put in some great fluid passing moves to take control of the game. Muir win 6 - 1
Our second game was against East Kilbride - our hosts started the match in a spirited fashion, and certainly didn't hold anything back. Our toughest opposition made sure we didn't have it all our own way and ruffled the Muir 'feathers'. Our game plan wobbled slightly but our defence stood firm from where we managed to counter EK a number of times.
At the end the players had settled back in to our play and ended the game playing some good rugby. Muir win 4 - 0
Our third game was against Strathaven - a new team for us. Strathaven did manage to put some good passages of play together but the Muir defence was organised and managed to come up, time and time again with speed to put them under pressure. Strathaven were finding it difficult to close off the wings which allowed us to score easily. Muir win 12 - 0
Our fourth game was against GHK - we only get to play GHK on the odd occasion, who started well, with some good passing and running for their speedy wings. We've been working hard on our defence and used it to close down there fast men. Our forwards were fighting hard to win some good ruck ball allowing our back to attack the GHK line again and again, for a impressive game. Muir win 7 - 1
Our sixth and last game was against Paisley - Unfortunately Paisley were filling in for Hamilton, so had come with a combined P6/7 team. By this time Muir were in full flow and playing some great phased rugby. Paisley couldn't match either our forwards power or our speedy backs, even with twelve players on the park. Muir win 12 - 1

Well done to all the players for bouncing back from last week and showing what good rugby they can play. Everyone played their part today, to take the winner's trophy and played some great rugby in doing it. Thanks to all our travelling support - in good voice and great to have you support the players, it always makes a difference! Also, another big thank you to East Kilbride for hosting a great tournament and booking the weather!
A final congratulations to Stuart Dobson who was voted, by the referees, to be the East Kilbride P7 star player of the tournament - well done and well deserved!

Boroughmuir P6 Report - East Kilbride Tournament

A tough day for Muir P6.

A number of injuries, other sporting activities and the Edinburgh holiday had a significant impact on available players,

but we wanted to fulfil our commitment and travelled to East Kilbride for the first time.

After discussion with the other coaches, we borrowed players from the other teams – Thanks to Jamie & Greg (Ayr) plus Aiden and Tom (Hamilton) who all put in a great performance to bolster the Muir numbers. Whilst the results on the day didn’t go in our favour, there was much chat of moving up as a defensive line and getting the off load away during contact.

Well done to all the Muir players for digging in and battling to the final whistle … onwards and upwards!
