Boroughmuir Rugby S1's: 22 -  0 :Stirling County S1's

Sunday's match saw us up against Stirling County at Bridgehaugh Park. The sunny conditions were very welcome for our first encounter with County of the new season. It's fair to say that playing Stirling County is never and easy task. They are a well drilled team, with big players and some real enthusiasm for playing the game of rugby, which puts them as one of the top teams in each of their youth year groups.
We had a good warm up, which allowed us to take to the pitch with a positive attitude - 'meet fire with fire'! Muir kicked off the game to a waiting County team and immediately put SC under pressure. Although Muir were able to contain County in their own half for a lot of the time, County's well drilled forwards and good defence were proving an equal match. With some quick ruck ball and some fast passing we managed to open up the scoring with a well worked move which allow us to run it up the wing for the touch down. The rest of the half was taken up with the two sides trying to cancel each other out. However, Muir scored another 3 tries, through good tackling and the ability to move the ball quicker to our wings. The second half saw much the same, although the Muir forwards, were starting to put the counter ruck to good use, stealing the ball. SC seemed to have trouble through their back line which allowed our defensive line to constantly put them under pressure. Through some good and constant pressure applied by Muir, the team managed to touch down another three tries before the final whistle blew.
This was most definitely one of our 'benchmark' games, which showed that everyone of the players could 'up their game' when needed. On reflection, to hold County to a nil score line at home is a great achievement for the whole team, and one they should feel rightly proud of. This is by no means the end of the season, and there will be more challenges as we progress, but if the players can bring the effort and competitiveness, as they showed today, to every game, then we'll have taken a big step forward for the season. Again, every player gave maximum effort and put in good individual performances. Thank you, as always to all our travelling support and a big thank you to Stirling County for their hospitality!
