Boroughmuir Rugby S2: 23 - 6: Dunfermline S2

(Tries: Gavin 2, Matt C, Cammie, Ethan, Murray. Conv: Calum 5)

This was S2's first game of the new year due to some cancellations and their first game in nearly 2 months. With a few injuries from the skiing season and call off's just before the game, the S2's had only 2 subs so was going to be hard work for 60 minutes.

There was some doubt with the pitch an hour before the game was to due to start but thankfully by the time kick-off arrived the pitch was good to go.

Dunfermline received the kick-off and were quickly on the front foot with a succession of phases before Muir eventually turned over the ball. The game was played at a very fast pace all the way through. Muir broke the deadlock after a lineout on the Dunfermline 22m was won and with a few quick rucks Matt managed to find a gap and held off the defence to power over the line. Conv missed. (3-0)

Muir's second try came from a series of good interlinking, support play and passes, before the ball was passed back inside for Cammie from the 15m line to sprint over the try line near the posts. Calum successful this time with the conversion. (7-0)

The third try came shortly afterwards, with a ruck on half way near the touch line, Ethan collected the ball and took off down the blind side. Shrugging off a couple of tackles no one was going to stop him as he sprinted in under the posts with the extra point taken too. (11-0)

Dunfermline came back at Muir and after a period of pressure, in the 22m, got in behind the Muir defence to power over in the corner for a well deserved try.

(1st Period: 11 - 3)

The second period was more of the same with both teams continuing to play expansive rugby. It was another close 20 minutes with Muir scoring first. Gavin collecting the ball on half way and using his speed to get past some tackles and break the defence. (15-3)

Dunfermline scored their second try with a pick up at the ruck with the Muir defence napping for their player to sprint away to touchdown. (15-6)

Muir's second try, and Gav's, was much the same as his first bursting through the Dunfermline team to run in under the posts for an simple conversion. (19-6)

(2nd Period: 19 - 6)

In the final period, the line was crossed just once with Muir back-row Murray finishing off from the 22m after some good support work and ball retention enabled Muir to pressure the defence.

More Muir pressure before the end and sterling defence from Dunfermline saw Muir's full-back Adam held up over the line in the dying moments before the final whistle was blown.

(Final Result: 23 - 6)

A good team performance for Muir's first game of the year with a few players playing out of position and lot of hard work and tired legs from everyone after the 60 minutes.

A huge thankyou to Graham Hepburn who agreed to take the whistle after the referee had to cancel.

And thanks again to the big support from both sides who watched a very competitive and exciting game of rugby. Well done to both teams on what turned out to be a cracking Winter's afternoon down at Meggetland.
