P7 Report from Biggar Tournament
A combination of extracurricular sports events and the Edinburgh holiday weekend saw a very depleted but plucky squad travel to Biggar.
Muir vs Melrose
The two sides were very evenly matched, both moving the ball around well.
Melrose opened up the scoring just before the break taking advantage of an overlap
Much the same in the second half Muir worked hard to run on to the ball and to get low into the ruck.
Thhe only difference being a couple of missed tackles allowing the Borderes to burst through for a score
Muir vs Currie Amber
Currie as always were well drilled and put Muir under pressure from the start.
Getting the ball out wide allowed Currie to find gaps and run in some un contested tries
To their credit the Muir boys put in some strong tackles on occasion. Whilst Individual runs gained ground on a number of occasions Muir will struggle to break through until the ball starts getting offloaded further down the line
Muir vs Stirling
The final game against Stirling was similar to Currie in that Muir were strongest in the ruck and with individual running.
A number of occasions Muir were caught watching the ball and not the player in front. Stirling were certainly no slouches in taking advantage of the overlap and Muir couldn’t quite get the tackles in to keep them out.
The players understanding of the attacking and defensive line is certainly improving and with continued training they should soon be able to put that understanding into their game play

P6 - Triple Winners at Biggar
The P6 squad were excited having returned as winners in the previous two seasons
The draw saw us playing Currie, Stirling County and East Kilbride in the pool stage. The first game was against Currie. As coaches we have been drilling the boys on going back to the basics. Get the simple things right and the game opens up. It was great to see this happening on the pitch. Good passing and continuity, good tackles and rucking saw us open us a strong lead without conceding a try. This became a theme of the day, with strong defense providing a foundation onto which the boys built against Stirling County and East Kilbride.
As pool winners we were then into a semi-final against Dalziel. This was a difficult match as Dalziel only had 8 players and there was some concern about the knocks and hits that they had sustained in their pool eroding the experience of taking part. After a team talk the boys responded positively and played at a tempo that allowed for the game to flow with out incident, again keeping a zero try count conceded.
The final match was against Melrose. Perhaps inspired by the first XV who had done well at the Greenyards on Saturday, but definitely encouraged by each other, the boys upped their intensity to record a good victory against Melrose, maintaining their discipline and putting on a fine display of running rugby, and robust defence.
It was a great result and one that the boys should be proud of, not conceding a single try all afternoon.
There are still development areas. We need to distribute the ball before contact more, focusing on the hips for the tackle more, and the tackler getting to feet their quicker after the tackle, to allow for cleaner rucking. It is improving all the time and has definitely stepped up a gear from last year.
P4's - So Close!
Our P4's finished runners-up to Melrose at the Biggar tournament.
After finishing joint top in a division, which included two Currie teams and Stirling County beating both Currie teams, 'Muir faced East Kilbride in the semi final winning 7 tries to 4.
The girls and boys were fantastic all day displaying some marvelous tackling, handling and passing scoring fabulous tries in the process. They played fantastic rugby in the final &, despite going down 10-7 in tries scored, the players showed the 'muir fighting spirit.
