The Bears made the long trip to Selkirk for their weekend game. With limited numbers and a great effort by Mike Buchan and Ross Young to find players, the Bears were able to field a team.
If you were lucky enough to see this game you would have been treated to a fast paced and exciting try fest for 80mins. Both teams throwing the ball from each side of the field to run as much as they could.
Some individual brilliance from the Bears backline, supported by the strong support play from the forwards meant some early tries were secured. Selkirk did not fold at this point, in fact they rallied and produced a strong come back in the 2nd half to take the game right to the wire.
With a well drive phase of play from a stolen re-start, Selkirk got the ball out wide to score in the corner to take the lead and the win. Great game by both teams, good to see the enjoyment of running rugby still alive with the Bears and Selkirk. Selkirk winning 43-40.
A personal note from Ross Young:
“Just want to say a massive thanks to the 14 guys who answered the calls, pulled together and played for the bears in Selkirk yesterday - very unlucky to lose out in the end!
Feel free to join us at training this week - I only found out recently myself that training happens on a Tuesday as well as a Thursday, who knew!?
Special thanks goes out to Mike Buchan who yet again offered his services not only to coach but also took the field for 40mins”
