Boroughmuir Rugby are delighted to announce the appointment of Graeme Blackhall to the important role of Head of Rugby. This is a volunteer role supporting the Director of Rugby, with a particular focus on working with the 1st and 2nd XVs.
This is Boroughmuir’s first appointment to this role and Robbie McKenzie, Director of Rugby states “I am delighted to welcome Graeme to the team supporting and progressing the rugby operations at Boroughmuir. I’ve been speaking with Graeme for a number of months now and already it is clear the benefit the club will feel from his appointment. I am excited to see the acceleration in our rugby objectives as a result of this appointment".
Graeme, son of long-time club servant Peter Blackhall, is Boroughmuir through and through, joined Boroughmuir RFC at the age of 8. Progressing through the youth ranks to represent the 1st XV in the Premiership and Cup competitions until he left the club in 2015. He always had a soft spot for 7s, and has fond memories of winning the Gala 7s, the Boroughmuir 7s and reaching the semi-finals of the Melrose 7s.
Since hanging up the boots in 2015, he has progressed into the coaching world. Where he won the Scottish Cup with Hillhead Jordanhill Women in 2018, before spending 3 seasons as Hillhead Jordanhill Men's coach. He has recently gained experience working for Scottish Rugby in various performance coaching roles- in the FOSROC Glasgow & The West Academy, head Coach of the Senior Scottish Futures XV and assistant coach to the Scotland Women 7s squad.
Graeme is looking forward to using his experience to support the coaches, management and players in the Head of Rugby role. He has a long standing affiliation to the club and values the importance of the Club XV's in order to maintain a strong future at Boroughmuir RFC.
