Boroughmuir Rugby and Community Sports Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Neil Wood as Director of Rugby for our Boroughmuir Senior Club sides.
In 2016, Neil joined Boroughmuir (from Selkirk) as 1st XV assistant coach to Peter Wright; Neil coached our ones for a further four years. In 2020 he moved to his local club, Dalkeith, and as head coach, he led them to promotion.
Neil rejoined us in August this season and took on the brief of player recruitment and retention. Since then we have launched our Bears Academy, agreed a club wide approach to video analysis (VEO) and Neil is now leading our Player Development Group which includes Dave Cockburn (Director of Coaching), Graham Shiel (Bears), Alex Toolis (Academy Performance Mgr), Lewis Robinson (1st XV), Richie Lockhart (u18) and Duncan Small (u16).
Neil Wood said, ”I am delighted to take us this role within Boroughmuir Rugby Club. It has been great being back and the way the coaching group and the executive are working together bodes well for the future. No doubt we have challenges ahead and one of the main priorities is to get the winning feeling back in the club XV’s. Boroughmuir has and always will be an ambitious club that puts player development at the forefront. With the Bears Academy starting in January we will be able to offer the best young players a pathway through senior rugby to semi pro and hopefully to further honours”.
Club President, Stevie Douglas, said, “I am delighted by this key appointment and we are lucky to have someone of Neil’s calibre and experience step up to be our Director of Rugby. In the short time Neil has been back with us, we have accelerated our player development approach, creating a strong player pathway that joins up our very successful Youth Academy with Senior Rugby and Super6. The rugby elements of the club are now working much closer together and that helps ensure that we are well positioned to take advantage of our coaching blueprint - the Boroughmuir Way”.
Neil’s appointment further strengthens our senior rugby management team.
Neil takes up his role on 1st Jan 2023.
