A squad of ten brave Boroughmuir U15's, Lewis B, Lewis R, Sam, Liam, Angus, Finlay, Kerr, Elijah, Andy & Ross, went west to Glasgow to represent the East, along with Biggar, against Hamilton & Whitecraigs in a pre-match sevens tournament at the Glasgow v Edinburgh 1872 first leg match.
Our first game was against a mature looking Hamilton team, in a tough fought game, going down 4 tries -3 tries was a testament to the boys discipline and ability.
It meant the U15s had to win the next two games to advance to the half time final.
Whitecraigs were next, with only a short break straight after the Hamilton game. The Boroughmuir boys then produced the best sevens of the afternoon defending exceptionally well and effectively forcing six turnovers to win 7 tries - 0, the only clean sheet of any team in the afternoon.
The last match against Biggar was another close affair and despite nearly replicating their earlier form Boroughmuir went down 3 tries to 2 tries.
So Biggar and Hamilton progressed to the half time entertainment match.
The silver lining was Biggar needed 3 replacements for the half-time match and after a lengthy selection process, Lewis B, Angus & Finlay were the chosen 3, but our festive luck continued with only Finlay getting any game time.
A big thank you to all the coaches who helped prepare the boys for this event, in particular Abel & Mo, who's sevens knowledge was a joy to listen to. The parents who came to support the boys were great, giving encouragement all the way to the end.
This event will be ideal preparation for our forthcoming sevens & tens tournaments.
Happy New Year to you all!
